The ATO reveals Australia's most charitable individuals

The ATO has recently released the 2014-15 Taxation Statistics, revealing among other things, data on Australia's most charitable individuals. The most charitable region in 2014-2015 was New South Wales, with more than 1.46 million people claiming tax deductions for gifts to charities totaling more than $1 billion, which is an average donation of $836.65 for each New South Wales resident who claimed a donation on their tax return.

The topic of gifts and donations however, brings to mind the need for not-for-profits to have the structures in place to both aid and encourage generous giving.

Emil Ford Lawyers assists charities and not-for-profits with a range of issues including:

  • Incorporation of companies, trusts and incorporated associations, including advising on the best structures to use

  • GST
  • Fundraising and compliance with the Charitable Fundraising Act, the Corporations Act, and the Associations Incorporation Act
