Is your information safe?

From 22 February changes to the Privacy Act will mean you could be liable for penalties for data breaches of information that you hold, whether you disclose third party information or your system is hacked.

If that happens to you, and you believe that the data breach is serious, you will have an obligation to disclose the breach to the affected client (or clients) and to the Privacy Commissioner.

Whilst your business may not previously have been required to comply with the Privacy Act, the February 2018 amendments will substantially widen those affected.
